In the wake of the devastating fire that ripped through the Wang Fuk Court housing complex in Hong Kong's Tai Po district, 22 Indonesian nationals remain unaccounted for, according to the Foreign Ministry's latest update. The fire, which occurred on November 26, 2025, has left at least 156 people dead and thousands displaced, sparking public demands for accountability. The tragedy has also brought attention to the plight of migrant domestic workers, as an estimated 140 Indonesians were living in the high-rise complex, all of them migrant domestic workers.
The ministry confirmed that nine Indonesians have been confirmed dead, with no change in the figure since early this week. However, 108 others have been located safely, and three were injured, with two having recovered and one remaining hospitalized. The search for the missing individuals continues, with authorities racing to identify victims amid the widespread devastation.
The fire engulfed seven residential towers housing more than 4,000 people, and the death toll is expected to rise as search teams sift through the debris. This tragic incident has highlighted the urgent need for improved safety measures and accountability in the construction and renovation of residential buildings in Hong Kong.
