ModRetro's M64 Console: A Nostalgic N64 Remake
ModRetro, the company behind the Chromatic Game Boy, has unveiled its latest creation: the M64 console, a remake of the iconic Nintendo 64 (N64). This console is designed to bring back the nostalgia of playing N64 games in 4K resolution, thanks to an FPGA chip. The M64 is a tribute to the original N64, with a design inspired by Nintendo's hardware and a focus on authenticity.
The M64 console features a gently curved top panel, a cartridge slot on top, and four ports on the front, compatible with the N64's original wired gamepads. It also includes a power button, a menu dial, an HDMI port, three USB-C ports, and a microSD card slot on the back. The console is available in translucent green, purple, and white color options, along with three color-matched controllers.
One of the key features of the M64 is its controllers, which are nearly identical to the original N64 design. The three-pronged controllers have a thumbstick on top of the middle grip and a trigger button beneath it, providing a familiar and authentic gaming experience. ModRetro worked with 8BitDo to create a modernized version of the N64 controller, but chose to stick with the original design for authenticity.
The M64 console is priced at $199, the same launch price as the N64 in 1996. However, ModRetro is offering introductory pricing for those who signed up for the waitlist, and it's currently extended to everyone. This console is a must-have for N64 enthusiasts and retro gaming lovers, offering a chance to relive the glory days of gaming in high-definition.
